The question beneath the question

You've built a life. Now what?

You've lived enough life to notice your patterns. Maybe you've built a successful career. Started a family. Optimized for independence and spontaneity. Wherever you are now, you're recognizing that patterns you formed decades ago are still subtly and deeply limiting what's possible:

01

You've spent decades putting others over yourself.

02

Rest comes with a sense that you “should” be doing something else — unless you've worked hard enough that you “deserve” taking a break.

03

You say no automatically when someone offers you help, even when it's a genuine offer.

04

Your body holds decades of bracing.

05

You've done years of therapy, meditation retreats, and workshops.

06

You're surrounded by people and still feel alone.

These patterns were initially formed to keep you safe. Now that they're no longer serving you, they can be updated through lived experience, opening space for you to build the life you know is possible.

What you'll practice

Group activities on emotions and relationships

Facilitated group work where we'll explore new emotional and relational territories — grief, joy, shame, desire, boundaries, conflict, self-sabotage, and more — and begin to unwind our conditioned responses.

Somatic awareness

Learning to hear your body's signals in real-time and understand the information they're conveying.

Breathwork & nervous system regulation

Controlled breathing practices that access emotional material held in the body, paired with tools for self-regulation you'll use long after.

Metacognitive awareness

Build awareness of your thought patterns and habituated responses, clearing the space for you to make new choices.

Integration

Daily movement, meditation, and time in nature designed to help you ground and metabolize what surfaces.

Inside a session

What does a session look like?

Every day we'll cover different emotional and relational terrain in an activity-based format. Here are some examples of what that might look like:

A day at Sleepawake

Each day, the emotional and relational sessions will cover different emotional territories and compensatory strategies. We'll cover themes like joy, grief, desire, boundaries, shame, judgements, conflict, and more — giving you new frameworks and the opportunity to build new ways of being in all these arenas that will last well after the retreat ends.

This daily rhythm is designed to move through activation and back to regulation multiple times every day, with enough time to fully land each cycle. Everything is opt-in and your “no” will always be honored. After the retreat, we host a 2 month series of optional facilitated calls to support bringing your learnings from the retreat into your day-to-day life.

This might be for you if

  • You have attained some level of traditional success, and still crave a deeper sense of fulfillment and alignment
  • You feel flatness or melancholy underneath daily life, and want to live in a way that feels more vibrant
  • You're navigating a major life transition and old strategies aren't working
  • You want to stop living from ‘shoulds’ (or rebelling against ‘shoulds’) inherited from parents, community, and culture — and start living with radical agency and freedom
  • You want to parent, partner, or lead from a more honest place
  • You have experience with meditation, somatic work, or therapy, or this is your first foray into this work and you're ready to begin a longer journey beyond just this week

This is not for you if

  • You're looking for an unstructured week in nature with a little bit of meditation and yoga
  • You're not up for the discomfort and fear that will arise as a natural part of the process of expanding your nervous system's capacities
  • You are looking for a quick-fix, one-week change, and are not up for the ongoing work of integrating what you learn at the retreat into your day-to-day life
  • You are in need of an inpatient mental health support program for an acute crisis
  • You are only motivated to come to Sleepawake by others' expectations or a belief that you “should” want to, and do not feel an internal pull or interest that is coming purely from yourself
  • You're well under 30, or in the first stages of adult life; our other retreats may be a fit

Selected testimonials

I have spent years in therapy (CBT, DBT, TF-CBT). I've done transcranial magnetic stimulation, plant ceremonies, countless reflection and journaling. Everything had a purpose, but I've felt stuck for years, at an inroads where I've logically processed my trauma but I'm not living fully. After Sleepawake, I feel safer with myself, in relationships, and in the world… This program has provided infinite wisdom and trailheads where I can continue my journey to take ownership of my life.

Only takes one week to be more myself for the rest of my life. So, so worth it.
